1. WEAR A POPULAR COSPLAY!

There are many ways to make new cosplay friends at a convention, but one of the easiest and most effective techniques is to wear a popular costume. A well-made and popular cosplay will attract attention from other attendees and make it easy for people to approach you. Compliments are also likely, so enjoy the attention and take advantage of the opportunity to talk to other cosplayers!

2 WHAT’S CONSIDERED POPULAR COSPLAY?

What is popular cosplay right now? If you take a look at photos from a large convention, you can get an idea. If you see a lot of the same characters, it’s most likely popular. Don’t worry about what others might think if you wear a popular cosplay or cosplay a character you’ve never watched or played. A lot of people do this, and the cosplay community is all about “cosplay whoever you want.” So have fun and make new friends!

ATTEND A GROUP COSPLAY PHOTOSHOOT TO MEET COSPLAY FRIENDS!
At many Anime conventions, group photos are scheduled for attendees cosplaying from the same series. (E.g. My Hero Academia photoshoot 2 p.m. Area C for Pokémon shoot at 3 p.m. in the hotel area). These photoshoots are great opportunities to chat with cosplayers from the same series. Not only is it fun to take pictures together with creative poses, more than likely you’ll have things in common – after all you’re cosplaying from the series.

3. TAKE PHOTOS OF COSPLAYERS, AND MAKE NEW COSPLAY FRIENDS.

Take photos of cosplayers and make new friends by starting a conversation. If they’re not interested in talking, they might just need a photo. But if they are, they might want to know more about you.

You never know who you can meet by simply asking for their photo. Just be aware that there are certain times when it’s inappropriate to ask for a photo.

For example, don’t ask to take a picture if they’re sitting down, or eating or busy doing something else. It’s considered especially rude to ask for a photo while they’re in the middle of their own photoshoot; interrupting the photographer and the cosplayer is not a good first impression to make!

4. MEET NEW FRIENDS BY VOLUNTEERING!

Volunteering at an Anime convention is a great way to meet new people. You’ll meet other volunteers and convention staff, who will probably be just as excited about the convention as you are. It’s like meeting coworkers at your job, but in a more fun, casual environment. You don’t have to feel like you’re working either – you can usually decide what type of volunteer work to do, and how many hours

5. BRING A CARD GAME TO BRING TOGETHER NEW COSPLAY FRIENDS

If you’re looking to make some new friends while at an Anime convention, consider bringing a card game with you. Card games like Apples to Apples and Cards Against Humanity are great for breaking the ice and can be a lot of fun. If you see someone who looks like they’re bored or lonely, invite them to play with you. Who knows, you might even end up making a new friend this way.

6. ATTEND EVENING EVENTS

Cons can be overwhelming, so it’s okay to take a break during the day. But don’t miss out on the nightlife! Cons often have great evening events like concerts, raves and parties. You can meet some amazing people at these events, including fellow cosplayers, DJs, performers and artists.

7. HOTEL PARTIES!

If you go to a large Anime convention, you’ll probably find yourself in a hotel with other attendees. Hotel parties are a common occurrence at conventions, and they can be a lot of fun. The hardest part is getting invited, but if you socialize enough, you’ll eventually be invited. Hotel parties can be a great way to make new friends, so if you’re invited, be sure to go!
At first, it can be awkward going to a party where everyone knows each other, and you don’t know anyone. But if you put yourself out there, you’ll find that most people are friendly and welcoming.

Here are a few things to do to make new friends at a party:

1. Introduce yourself to people.

2. Ask people about themselves.

3. Find common ground with people and talk about shared interests.

4. Compliment people on their outfits or what they’re drinking/eating.

8. HOST A PANEL.

Panel discussions can be a fun and informative way to gather people who share your interests. If you’re interested in a topic, why not share your knowledge with others by hosting a panel at a convention?
Panels can provide a unique opportunity to explore a topic in-depth with like-minded individuals

9. TABLETOP GAMING.

Many Anime conventions have a room dedicated to tabletop gaming. It’s a great way to have some fun and meet new people, especially if you’re looking for someone to join your game. If one of your friends has to leave for a photoshoot, for example, you can easily find a replacement player.

10) VIDEO GAME ROOMS!
